Jupiter Passes Through Pisces
May 13, 2021 – July 28, 2021
December 28, 2021 – May 10, 2022
Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, is dipping its outgoing, confident, positive energies into sensitive, inward-turned, watery Pisces where it will stay, thanks to retrograde motion, for a few months before returning to finish out 2021 in the sign of Aquarius. At first glance, it might seem that the combination would be challenging. However, in the time before the invention of the telescope in the late 18th Century opened astrological and astronomical portals to outer planets that were not visible to the naked eye, Jupiter ruled Pisces. That is, as the planet associated with that sign, they function well together, sharing compatible qualities that are different in nature, but comfortable with each other. Jupiter is the teacher of “higher mind” things like philosophy, metaphysics and religion, disciplines that put frameworks of meaning around life so that we can understand how we fit in to its bigger picture. Soulful Pisces is about faith and direct contact with The Divine, architect of that bigger picture. Jupiter is tolerant, inclusive, and open-hearted; Pisces is empathic and compassionate. Jupiter expands possibility and expects a better future. Pisces is visionary. The combination adds up to a great opportunity to connect to something “bigger” than ourselves, to expand our spiritual connection, and cultivate deeper, unprejudiced connection to others by combining Jupiter’s tolerance with Piscean compassion. In so doing, we join forces with an outer planet which, by its very nature, influences us societally and globally as well as individually, and can help bring in a healed, better future, something that so needed considering what we all have been living through.
During Jupiter in Pisces times we can learn (Jupiter) from our souls (Pisces) and heal by facing things we’ve avoided or buried. Quiet time for contemplation and introspection sets the stage for the healing process. Time spent in meditation or prayer, or walking along the shore of a body of water, or some sort of creative pursuit are the kinds of activities that clear the connection to your own heart and soul as well as to the wisdom and healing energies of the world beyond the here and now.
But remember: energy itself is neutral. It’s how it is used that makes its expression either positive or negative. With Jupiter, we always have to be on the alert for excess and exaggerated expectations. And Pisces, the idealist, can easily drift into idealization, envisioning a pie-in-the-sky, unattainable future. Jupiter figures everything will work out and wants to keep its eye on a positive future without getting mired in the mundane details of everyday life. Pisces can drift into apathy, procrastination and inertia. Jupiter is all about going beyond our limiting boundaries. Pisces may not even be aware that boundaries exist, because they must be porous enough to allow direct access to the world we cannot see. It’s important to remind ourselves of the necessity for discipline and to keep our feet on the ground when our heart and head may be in the clouds.
Across the astrological spectrum, integration is always the goal. In this instance, filtering Jupiter’s energy through the sign of the fish softens and sensitizes that outgoing, confident planet, encouraging awareness of others and responsiveness to what’s going on in the inner, quiet fields of our consciousness and spirit. And those same Jupiter energies draw Pisces out of its subjective “fog” and encourage optimism and faith instead of pessimism and inertia.
So, hop on board, as the “Greater Benefic,” the universal source of good fortune, benevolence, and optimism, cruises into sensitive, spiritual, watery Pisces, where it will stay (except between July 29 and December 27, 2021) until May 10, 2022.
